Botox® Treatments

Many dentists are now using Botox® treatment for both oral and maxillofacial cosmetic and therapeutic use. Botox functions by obstructing the release of acetylcholine which disrupts the process for muscle contraction. This temporary muscle apathy can last up to three months as the muscle slowly returns to its original, full function.

Botox® has been used for the treatment of:

  • Tempromandibular Joint Disorder (TMD)
  • Bruxism (clenching and grinding of teeth)
  • Orthodontic therapy relapse – helping to calm the hyperactive mentalis muscle that may be disrupting the alignment of teeth
  • Retaining of removable prosthodontics – helping to calm the hyperactive muscles that may make this difficult
